On my most recent trip to Orange County, I was looking for something new to do. While the OC has a lot to offer, I normally stick to my go-to activities and local favorites—Laguna Beach, Newport Beach and the like. As a mountain-lover myself, I’ve wanted to explore the eastern side of the county, but never got around to it. I’m so glad that we decided to make time to venture out to a real hidden gem in the OC—the best hike in Orange County!

On this perfect sunny and 78 degree Southern California day, we set out to explore Foothill Ranch. Although it’s primarily residential, Foothill Ranch is actually home to some of the best hiking in Southern California. Madi and I couldn’t wait to check it out! We headed straight for the best hidden gem hike in OC: Redrock Canyon Trail in Whiting Ranch Wilderness Park.

The entrance to the park is clearly marked. Tip: you can avoid the parking fee by parking for free in the Ralph’s parking lot to the right of the entrance! We got a little lost exploring before Redrock Canyon because not all the signs are marked well. This guide is super helpful for exact hiking directions so you don’t get too lost! Screenshot the directions ahead of time since there’s little to no service in the park.

Since the hike is over 4 miles and about 2 hours long, make sure you come prepared! Most of it is relatively flat, but the park has a lot of steep uphill climbs if you choose to add another path to your hike.

And now for the views that make the best hike in Orange County all worth it 🙂
