New Orleans is one of the most iconic and culturally-rich destinations in America. The amazing food scene, ever-present jazz music flowing on every corner, gorgeous architecture and southern charm make NOLA the perfect city for a weekend getaway. I’m so excited to be launching a new series where I share some of my favorite trips from the archives. What better place to start out with than New Orleans!

Things to Do in New Orleans
French Quarter
The French Quarter is the heart of New Orleans and the most popular neighborhood to visit on any trip. Here you’ll find some of the best hotels, restaurants and bars in New Orleans. Spend some time strolling through Jackson Square, drive down Bourbon Street for people watching and stop by world-famous Cafe du Monde for midnight beignets.
Garden District
New Orleans’ Garden District is hands-down the most gorgeous neighborhood in the city. This corner of the city is filled with amazing Cajun restaurants with a less touristy feel than those in the French Quarter. You’ll find stately mansions with iron-wrought fences and scenic oak trees lining the streets. If you’re looking for a photo tour of the Big Easy, there’s no better place than the Garden District. For all you American Horror Story: Coven fans, make sure to grab a photo of the stunning Buckner Mansion on Jackson Avenue. It’s my favorite spot in the Garden District!
Haunted New Orleans
For those with a penchant for the supernatural, there’s no better place for a ghost tour or spooky photo spot than New Orleans. There are countless tours you can take in NOLA, from ghost tours to cemeteries to voodoo haunts to vampires. These are some of the best spots in New Orleans for ghostly encounters:
- Lafayette Cemetery No. 1
- St. Louis Cemetery No. 1
- Lalaurie Mansion
- The Sultan’s Palace
- New Orleans Pharmacy Museum
- Oak Alley Plantation
- New Orleans Historic Voodoo Museum
